Should they have abandoned Janeway's babies?
After the discussions about how bad the episode "Threshold " was, I was wondering if there was some kind of consensus as to whether the crew of Voyager should have abandoned the lizard babies on an unknown planet in the Delta Quadrant. Surely if the EMH could change Paris and Janeway back into humans, he could change the triplets into human babies. It seems unnecessarily cruel to leave them there to fend for themselves.

Paris and Janeway started out as humans, the babies were never human. Perhaps that is why they didn't attempt to change them. Maybe they felt they would have a better life in the wild then onboard the ship.

True but they have human DNA presumably. They would die out pretty quickly, if they even managed to survive more than a couple of days. There would be little chance of a next generation of them. Besides, I bet if that really happened, Janeway's head would be pretty screwed about abandoning her own children, even if they were lizards.

Sadly Star Trek seems to have a habit of moving quickly on past issues you think would permeate through someones life for years, is why I'm pleased 'Family' in TNG explored Picards recovery after being assimilated.
Maybe they should have put in something about the fate of the lizard babies but the writers were having a bad week so it's understandable it didn't get mentioned on screen.

Perhaps since they were never human it made it impossible to change them even though they still had trace amounts of unaltered DNA. The doctor had all kinds of medical records, and transporter records of what Janeway and Paris' original DNA looked like. Something tangible to reconstruct as opposed to beings who were never human from the start?
