Default When Star Trek meets "The Young and the Restless"...

This is not a joke, folks... There's this soap I watch every day called "The Young and the Restless" and on today's episode, there was mention of Star Trek, Klingons and Captain Kirk.

Quick overview: Cane and Lily are married, she's been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and she's having a rough time. Why she's comparing her situation to a fictional Star Trek episode is beyond me but it certainly made me smile... And before anyone says anything, whatever story she's referring to doesn't actually exist in the ST universe so don't go all canonista on her butt, okay? Also, I may as well warn you that the cheese factor is very high.

So here's the conversation that took place between the two characters.

-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+

Lily - "I'm bald and I have this pore(? - couldn't make up the word...) in my abdomen where poison gets pumped in. I feel like an alien...

Cane - Don't say that...

Lily - I bet you didn't know about this... There's this one episode of Star Trek and well... you're playing Captain Kirk to my Klingon.

Cane - Well, you know, if I'm Captain Kirk then I'm required to seduce you...

Lily (smiles and rolls her eyes) - Yes, naturally... I guess the good thing is that Klingons never had to worry about birth control ever again, so...

-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+

And that's it.... I told you it was ridiculously cheesy, but I just had to share it!

If she's a Klingon, I guess she will be commiting ritual suicide soon. It's the only honorable way out for a Klingon warrior!

I saw this earlier today. There's been plenty of Trek references on Y&R in the past. Nick referenced 'Mirror, Mirror' one time.

Yes, I watch Y&R.

One CBS property referencing another CBS property more than once...fascinating.

However, Y&R is technically owned and produced by Sony. Only airs on CBS.

West Wing referenced it. They had a temp in who was wearing a communicator badge and Josh had to tell her to take it off.

At the end, it doesn't show it but Josh tells Janice if she works hard he'll instate a Star trek holiday

Really? It must have been during the years I stopped watching the show because I don't remember that. Interesting... Glad to see another Y&R viewer around here!

Maybe so but I've noticed that quite a few actors from Y&R have appeared on another CBS shows. As you probably know, Shemar Moore has gone on to become a main character on Criminal Minds. So it seems there is some kind of swapping going on regardless of ownership. Same with a few Star Trek actors who also have appeared on Criminal Minds. Could be just a coincidence, of course.
