At first I didn't like Wrath of Khan.
It took time to like it. The motion picture...well...it took me years to see it all the way through.

My view has long been that The Motion Picture is actually two films: One, a somewhat above average Star Trek episode...the other, a really cool hallucinagenic flick for the chemically altered.

I certainly hope this is a good movie and I certainly hope this makes a lot of money, and I certainly hope that Abrams is wanting to make a ton of money on this, so he is making the best possible Trek movie he can.
I think this is actually a problem that Trek has had in the past: I'm not sure if it really wanted to expand its fan base. If you listen to some of the commentaries on the DVD's you'll hear them say "We set a budget and goal of making such and such amount of money." Trek seemed to be satisfied with where it was at, and didn't ever really seem to take big risks or set a higher bar. Now Trek really is "shooting for the stars" and I am looking forward to it. |

Quote:
I wasn't implying fans should "force" the film to be successful just because it's TREK. Not only is that a stupid idea, but clearly it doesn't work either, if NEMESIS is any judge. The better film they make, the more new fans it will draw, the more old fans it will draw...the more profitable it is, and so the higher the chances the franchise will continue.

I have to disagree to some extent here...just as I cheered on the Celtics and Red Sox and Patriots through times of mediocrity, I knew that if I stayed persistent with the rest of my franchise's fans and supported the many times sloppy and sub-par product, one day the powers that be would see the loyalty and turn things around. Same goes for Trek, I support Trek for Trek's sake even when it's borderline rubbish and I have full confidence this movie will bring Trek back as a powerhouse. I really really miss having a running TV series.

Eliza-
So it should be called "Acid Trek-The Motion Picture??" (Or at least partly?) Well TMP was a revised tv pilot episode. So TWOK was the first true moive script written for TOS.

Well, to be honest, I'm not really that big of a "Trekker"...just yet. But what I'm gonna do is read the "The Buried Age", go through "The Next Generation", watch the 4 movies, and read the re-launch books.

To put it simply, maybe I prefer Picard over Kirk.
