I think that 'over-familiarity' was possibly a factor. It could be fatigue of seeing a character go through the same motions as two (actually four, since Data and the EMH also served similar purposes) previous characters had done already.

It was kinda like - 'so, what else is new?'.

We must face it: despite Jeri's great performance of such a character, she was there for sex appeal first & foremost.

She was obviously brought on board for her sex appeal, but you can't deny that Jeri is a great actress and did a fantastic job with some occasionally rotten story line. The episode where the rest of the crew are put in stasis is particularly well acted ... I think the episode was called "One"

To answer your question, at least in the novels, she becomes all human, after the Calier get rid of the Borg. It is a great read, it's the newest 2 Voyager novels. Voyager is my favorite of all 5 series, I feel that Kate Mulgrew was right when she said in an interview, that Jeri Ryan was the shot in the arm that the show needed. In my opinion, 7 of 9 made Voyager a better show. Of course we all have our favorites!

No doubt. She's definitely one of the best actors/actresses on the show IMO. I just think she was overused for story purposes.

Definitely, people have been saying that her character arc becoming more human was drawn out and treading familiar territory, I'd agree with that for the most part, is interesting to think how it might have been if they hadn't just played Seven stories all the time, the few that we got may have had more impact.

Saying that I do think that she became more human and had some really good stories with her achieving that goal, 'One' like Janeway72 mentioned is a good example.

I wish they had kept her in her half borg, half human state for longer than one episode and had shown a bit more resistance to the idea of becoming human.

By the way the names of the two books that explain what happens to 7 of 9 are Full Circle & Unworthy by Kirsten Beyer. The first book, ties in with a TNG book in which our beloved Capt Janeway dies. I think the Caeliar is first mentioned in the TNG book.

I think 'over familiarity' was the problem with ST in general by that point, at least in its TNG-verse phase. I pretty much gave up on Voyager after year three, although I did make a point to see 'Scorpion', 'Year of Hell' and 'Endgame'.

Anyway, it seems to me the showrunners' idea of completing Seven's arc -and showing how 'human' she had become over the course of the series- was to... (wait for it)... pair her up with Chakotay. Which I'm sort of inclined to assume happened as recently as four episodes before the finale if not later (although happily, I could be wrong).
