Maybe Zephram Cochrane and all the bystanders should've pulled out their rifles, shot the Vulcans full of holes, and taken off in their ship. Oh wait...

However, I will say that it instantly felt 'right' that it was the Vulcans Earth first made contact with.

Picard was about to succumb to the need for revenge, and how many people have bemoaned: "Picard would never do that. He'd never even let himself get close."
(Sorry to trim you quote there a little martok2112, but I just wanted to isolate that line.)

Huh?! They were watching the same film? Scratch that, which Picard are they talking about? The one they just made up!

So the Borg kidnap him, stick all sorts of probes into him. Drain him of his individuality. Use him as a tool to fight his own people. Something that comes back to haunt him, on numerous occasions. In the film he's hearing them in his head and having nightmarish dreams about them. Also, he mentions that they have been advancing on the Federation off-screen.

And on top of that...just to rub salt into the wounds. They go back in time to that defining moment in Star Trek's history, the moment where it all began, which inspired Pike, Kirk, Picard and everyone else who wears a Starfleet uniform, with the intention of wiping that moment out of history. With Picard and his crew being the only one's who can stop them!

And he's not even allowed to get a little grumpy about it?!?!?!

Sounds like those fan's cheese has slid of their crackers!

As for the space battle...there's always room for a bigger space battle.

As for the Vulcan's being the first contact...well yeah, I mean it's gotta be ain't it. It's not dissappointing, more like satisfying with a big grin.
