I vaguely remember a DVD extra interview (might have been Braga) who said the idea behind the Kazon was a street gang. Just a bunch of kids which is why there are never any really old Kazon. They die too young

Yep, I remember that too.

IIRC, the early Kazon were highly advanced, but after being conquered by the Trabe, they were reduced to fighting among themselves and their society fragmented and declined over many centuries, I think.
