I have loads of respect for the outside-the-box types.

However;
Professionally he was a douchebag.
(For Hollywood, not a truly damnable offense initself).
As a human being... enema refuse.

All of that still doesn't have much to do with Star Trek.
I dislike the guy, not the product he helped create.
What happened later that's another tale.

He tried to take money and credit from other people, that's not exemplary behaviour but neither unusual in such a freelancer business. Everyone wants a part of the cake, if actors bargain for overblown salaries no one writes books about them but if a show creator tries to grab a large share, it seems to be a irredeemable offense.

Had be been a nice guy in business, his family might not have the merchandising rights or whatever they still have.

Anyway, I don't care who he was, he created with many other talented people two sci-fi series which are still seen fourty resp. twenty years after they have been produced.

Exactly H, but I feel there is a big diffrence from talking credit and "exaggerating" somewhat, and pretending that Gene Coon Didn't create the Klingons, or that DC Fontana didn't flesh out Vulcan Society(For example). These people waited, in some cases decades for the regonition they richly deserved.

Again on TNG, David Gerrold did alot of uncredited work in the creation of the writer's bible and basic format before he and GR had a falling out, not unlike him and Harold Livingston on Phase II, and into TMP.

There are also plenty of stories from people who have worked under Berman and complained about him. So what, if you are the boss you are exposed and rarely loved by everyone. Plus the majority of people simply misbehave once they have an itzy bit of power.

Who cares whether they have been jerks or not, both guys were at the helm of Trek and, like many others, did a fine job. That's all that matters to me.

Odd considering Berman was originally put there by Paramount to make sure GR didn't do another TMP cost overrun. GR evnetaully liked, and gave Trek over to him.
