Pee-Wee Herman was a funny guy, but Paul Reubens has/had problems. I don't link that to his playhouse even though I should probably give that another think through.
Right, he was just a flawed man who came up with a good basic idea.

'Nuff said.
Well said, a wise perspective beyond irrational fan-hate or -idolatry.

Probably the easiest way to leave it at.

Talk of Gene Rodenburry's Dream and Vision always make me think of Cohrane's monologue about The Zefram Cochrane Dram and Vision from First Contact.

GR came up with a good basic idea, he was lucky enough to have excellent people around him to flesh out those ideas. Sadly, he often took credit for other people's work, especially when TOS became a hit in syndication.

What allways got me was in Season 3 GR wasn't even affiliated with Trek anymore, Freddie was producer in Season 3, but if the episode was good GR got the credit from fans, if it was bad Freddie got the blame.

Or more of GR claiming responcibility for things he didn't do.

Let's be honest, outside of Trek (Which was a failure in it's inital run, until syndication in the early 70's), not one of his movie or TV ideas ever took flight in his lifetime.
