Very few TV characters make reference to the need to relieve themselves....Mom's might mention it to kids, but adults don't seem to talk about it much. Star Trek V did show a toilet in the brig...I think it even says "Do not flush in space dock" above it.

Very true, not too many television shows in general make mention of people using the bathroom. Wasn't the "toilet flush" one of the controversies about All In The Family?

Yes, indeed...you were never supposed to acknowledge the need for a toilet.

I'm sure they recycle...

Actually, Enterprise did address this issue...in one of the early shows there was a "kid's call in questions" public relations event and Tripp got stuck with the question "do you really recycle human waste to use on the shio?"...I remember he stopped the recording to complain about getting the "poop" question. The answer was that all excreted matter was recycled into non-consumable materials.

No, they cured that, didn't you hear? People of the 24th and 23rd cen do not urinate. Even Zephram Cochran asked about that in First Contact.

Seriously though, I've wondered about this too. I remember a scene in that submarine movie U571 where they go to red alert or the submarine equivalent and they show all the people scurrying to their stations, and they show this guy running off a toilet and pulling his pants up. Maybe they could do something like that. It's bound to happen you know.
