Default Things Star Trek has ripped off from - sorry, respectfully homaged - over the years

inspired by Kevin

Here is a list of all things Star Trek has homaged:

1. The works of Edmond Hamilton

The Star Trek universe is a carbon copy of Edmond Hamilton's "Captain Future" novels

Kirk is identical with Captain Future
Spock is essentially Simon Wright (the Living Brain)
Odo is Otho (the shapeshifting android)
etc.

Although it should be clarified that this is not really meant as a stick to batter Star Trek with - merely to highlight the fact that there are certain scenarios and concepts that have been employed which are in fact larger and more enduring themes and concepts used in the sci-fi genre and storytelling tradition - and to which are not endemic or unique to Star Trek itself.

2. The Twilight Zone, Planet of the Apes or anything

The pilot episode "The Cage" is probably a rip-off of a Twilight-Zone, I just don't know yet, in any case you have to admit it is very similar to "Planet of the Apes".

in that spirit:

4. Raumpatrouille – Orion

Although no American has ever seen this Star Trek predating little scifi jewel,
the concept of a supervising female officer, who seems emotionless and
sexually repressed while obviously very interested in the captain, sounds very T'Pol and Archer as well as Number One and Pike.
