Funny, eh? Honestly though, I think I might prefer the duo to Gerrold. Don't let Zim know!

To me, the only good things that I've seen out of Gerrold are the Tribble episodes in TOS and TAS, and maybe the animated episode, "Bem." Other than that I've only seen an episode he wrote for The Real Ghostbusters and it was clear that he barely knew anything about Ghostbusters.

![]() For the most part, Star Trek: Phase II was as much the precursor to TNG as it was to TMP (Gene Roddenberry--you ain't foolin' nobody!). As already mentioned, Ilia essentially became Troi, but also from the early draft notes of the series, you would have had "Commander Will Decker" (who later became Commander Will Riker), and the "Xon" character would have been pretty much Data--a person without emotions looking to embrace them. Of course, you would have McCoy and Scotty in their familar roles, but Kirk might have been depicted as the more seasoned veteran in comparison to the younger and more ambitious Decker, IMO...

Sorry, I have not been clear enough, I only think that the absence of the troika might have made it a bit weaker.
But as you have pointed out, many Phase II ideas were used in TMP and TNG and I definitely like the TMP / early TNG / Roddenberryesque atmosphere the show might have had. If memory serves, TNG recycled some scripts and New Voyages / Phase II does the same. |
