Story? Plot? Scientific Theory?

Why Zim, Is this the series that had it's women in outfits so skimpy you could see Uhura's Comm Channel?

Compelling and serious stories like Salt Vampires? Space Hippies? Brain theft? Amoebas in space?

'Who just like to see things go boom?' - how many starships and other ships did TOS blow up? Shuttles get blown up? Phaser fights and explosions on the ground? Planet populations wiped out? Redshirts falling on a weekly basis?

Yes, TOS was very quiet and sedate - no action in there ever at all!

I could at times swear you know nothing about TOS apart from how the ship and sets are supposed to look. Which we all know is what you really care about - not any of what you actually listed above. TOS had as many ridiculous elements as the film did but if the set design matched and it was the 'right' universe you'd be lapping it up.

I do have a response to that, but this is a family forum so must stay quiet

I think that's taking the Trojan Man political correctness correction a bit far...

Yeah. TOS had its moments of rediculous stupidity. Out of 79 episodes, there were probably 25-30 really good ones. The rest averaged from the complete waste of time (Spock's Brain) to the moderately silly (several come to mind). But the good ones like "The Menagerie", "Trouble With Tribbles", "City On The Edge Of Forever", and many others totally make up for some of the more campy episodes. With STXI, we are dealing with one movie, not a collection of episodes of television. I was expecting more. The movie didn't deliver on what I, personally expected from a modern retelling of TOS. It's a matter of opinion. And I like to see things go boom too. I just wanted a more cohesive story to go along with the SFX eye candy.

So we agree that the new film is, in fact, appropriate to the style and tone of the majority of TOS episodes made on the original run.

And it's certainly not better or worse than half the TOS films either.

Therefore it's smack dab in the mid-range.
