LIKED:
-The Enterprise-B
-Captain Harriman* & Ensign Sulu
-The Nexus
-The upgraded Enterprise-D interiors (including bridge & Ten-Forward)
-Doctor Soran
-The return of the Klingon D-cup--I mean Duras Sisters
-Picard meeting Kirk

HATED:
-Kirk dying (would rather have had him stay forever in the Nexus)
-The Enterprise-D crashing (would rather she'd been badly damaged and then extensively refitted/redesigned for the next movie)

*I don't care what anybody says, Starfleet didn't pick no fool to command the Enterprise. He had a disastrous first mission as captain, sure enough, but I definitely think he learned from it and went on to become one of Starfleet's finest captains of his era.

I agree with most of your LIKED choices, except for Soran. As much as I like McDowell as an actor, he's great BTW, he just wasn't right for me in that role.

On the HATED side-

Kirk dying, it did need to happen. Otherwise the 24th century woudl have become way too "fanperson" for anyone's tatse.

I agree on the ENT-D too. What happened to Geordie?? They had been through far more damage than that, and came through ship intact. Was he having a "blonde moment??"

*On the fotonote, I agree. Harriman suffered from having to take out an uncompleted ship on a "press jucket" to "show the flag." A choice I am sure he didn't have nay hand in making.

I actually agree with this whole list with only one exception. I rather liked the Enterprise-D crash.

It was one of the more memorable scenes and while not as good as the original Enterprise's destruction, it worked for me.

DISLIKES

The 'handover' aspect of the story and the entire 23rd Century opening sequence. The full crew had a great send off in TUC and GEN just muted it by bringing some back for mostly pointless cameos.

The Nexus concept.

Dr Soran was a weak villain and the Lursa/B'etor angle was fine but not great either.

The emotion chip always annoyed me in TNG anyway, and bringing it in permanently was a bad decision that slipped Data into slightly annoying rather than endearing territory.

LIKES

Kirk's death - it was a good reminder than even men who've led the biggest and boldest lives are mortal and their luck runs out sometime.

The special effects - the redesigned and relit bridge and the saucer sequence.

On your DISLIKES

I liked the knowing about and seeing the ENT-B, and soem of her crew, they could have done it without Kirk. But I agree, it was mostly just for cameos for Koineg and Doohan.

The Nexus idea itsself wasn't bad, it was how it played out that was weak. Soren and his quest weren't needed. The Duras sisters could have found out about it and tried to use it to put themselves in power, would have been just as dramatic, if not more.

Suprised me how the emotion chip when from going into the finger to into the head....that Noonian Soong and his multi-facted parts!

LIKES-

Agree on Kirk.

Loved the lighting of the ENT sets!!! That rocked!!

I like the script, especially Soran (together with Chang the only non-stereotypical villain) as well as the characters (Guinan, Duras sisters) and the continued storyline (emotion chip) from the series.
I did not like the high contrast lighting of the sets and the realization of the script. It is put your finger on it, the movie feels a bit lukewarm to me.
