Do all new ships have to look like bad redesigned known ships...?
Perhaps they want us all to like the Abrams-designs more and so they now turn the Intrepid into this (to show that all Starfleet ships could look a lot worse ):

It also could be an side-effect of the ship creator feauture.

Maybe you have known models as basis or components of known models and then you can put these components together or modify the base model free hand, depending on your taste or rank or skills,...
