Could be like "Nibbler" on Futurerama. It was a small creature that ate large amounts of about anything, didn't gain weight, but "pooped" dark matter that fueled a space ship.

Perfect opportunity to bring original Kirk back in a TOS Twilight Zone/Star Trek crossover episode. He wakes up disorented in his quarters on the Enterprise, goes to his wardrobe and sees only red shirts to wear. The room transforms into the quarters of a yet unnamed crew member, with his voice, the captain sounding on the intercom, calling for an away team. He looks in a mirror and sees himself as a red shirt that died on a recent landing. Cue narrator and music!

"A retired Starship Captain, forced to relive his past in a whole new way, as the security guards he sent off to their deaths. Capatin Kirk will get "beamed up" into The Twilight Zone."

That Twilight Zone angle is both funny AND scary! Would actually make a funny and frightening episode!

Redshirt candidates:
Dynomutt
Lootin' Lenny from "Good Times"
Carrot Top
Goober and the Ghost Chasers (Okay, that a group of kids and a dog, but they were a bad Scooby-Doo knock off. Out the airlock!)
Be it Democrat or Republican, fringe of the inner circle ex-staffers who write books to pad their wallets (Hey, I'm "Independent"!)
(Now, I'm from Philly, so I'm entitled) Eagles fans! Yo! You booed Santa. You booed SANTA!
MADOFF!
Makers of Sweet Potato pie without flavor!

"I'm ready to go kick some Romulan arse!"

I'd be happy for The Shat to be a redshirt, would be poetic justice for all the hapless redshirts he sent to their deaths back in TOS.

Well, Tom Hanks is a Trek fan and would like to be in a movie, so...

You know, if it was Ron Moore, he'd do it... but J.J. Abrams... probably not.
