The Wolf 359 scenes from the DS9 pilot are some of the best-paced Trek moments ever. Laying Sisko's roots during one of TNG's finest storytelling moments was a brilliant idea.

I got a lot of a similar feeling from the Kelvin sequence.

I just never got the mechanics behind it
The starboard part explodes and the ship moves into the same direction...

DUDE! That is one scene where, using old tech VHS, I snapped my cruddy tape, re-winding that scene over and over again! To me, it was one of the most emotional scenes in DS9.
