Thanks, guys.

In time I may build my own fully updated version of her according to deg, as a companion piece, and the parabolic "dish" will be the first thing to go, eh. deg

I love both of your designs. Either way, the original Jeffries design is still the best. But I really did like that blue glow. I understand your reasoning and I have no problem with it. I just thought that subtle blue glow gave it a high-tech updated look. Just like the little lights around the spheres on the tips of the nacelles - absolutely fantastic touch! Your version of the Enterprise would have looked absolutely at home on the big screen. IMO. Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing more.

Thanks again, my friend.
![]() And there is still a lil' glow BTW, as I too thought it gave it a lil' high-tech boost as well. It's just copper colored now to match the color of the dish. ![]() deg

Anyboy know why CBS Digital didn't add the cool lighting on the Enterprise for the remastered episodes? deg has proven that it looks worlds more realistic when you add a nifty lighting scheme. Couldn't have been that hard...

Apparently it was a commitment to honour the original series. The aim was to "slavishly" re-create some shots and tweak or slightly vary others. The Enterprise was originally done in Maya but was too detailed to render in a reasonable quantity of time. The render times per frame were 2-2.5 hours. So they simplified it and brought the time per frame down to 10-15 minutes. I agree that there was an opportunity to tweak the Enterprise - I like the idea of refinement. But as we have seen with the new Enterprise, fan opinion varies a lot. They could tweak it one way and some fans disapprove. They tweak it another and other fans disapprove. It's a brave group of producers/artists who dare put their own stamp on the TOS ship. Of course another thing to consider is budget and time constraints. Just how much money was made available to revamp the effects. |

And that my friends, is the original reason I built my version, as I felt a tremendous op had been passed on or missed. Upgrade the efx and some of the other ships like the Botany Bay, but not E...? Still, Mike and the crew did a nice job for the look they were going for, IMO. deg

Ah yes, the use of the word tweak is unfortunate. I only meant it in the context of the TOS ship! Must remember to check my posts before submitting them.
