I find that hard to believe. I'm sure someone edited that entry and he's likely a background player.

The ''silly'' thing that is starting to begin to become evident is that this picture is really ''crowding'' up with cast and has brought everyone short of Hillary Clinton in for some role or another -- and yet -- they couldn't find a way to bring in Shatner?

Big ''hmmmm'' factor here folks. Either way, for two hours and change, if they bring on anyone else, everyone in the cast will qualify as a ''cameo.''

Also, with another five-plus months added to the wait, ''hype fatigue'' could set in for some of even the most ardent of fans.

Ok, there are two separate 'casting issues' at work in the above posts:

1) Chris Doohan will have a walk-on role, he won't be a major character so the amount of screen time he gets will be minimal. As for trusting IMDB for accurate cast listings -- hold their info to be "true" at your own peril.

But in general, a feature film this size will have a cast of many because it's a big scale picture -- just like every other production its size. And 95% of those people will play minute parts in the overall film. Not all role casting is created equally.

2) It's so easy to find room to cast Chris Doohan in a tiny part, and very much more difficult to cast Shatner as Kirk in this film. Doohan's character, unknown, has no such 'canon' issues to deal with like being killed in a previous film already. Comparing Doohan's participation to Shatner's is totally... illogical.

Perhaps. My ''poke'' was in half-humor and distributed equally at all points of view on the Shatner issue. Believe me, I have been an ardent supporter of this ''great quest'' before it was called STIX for years now. As for canon issues, the best to hope for in the upcoming movie is likened to the old wedding adage, ''something old, something new, something borrowed...'' The two-edged sword called ''canon'' has been the ''blessing-curse'' since TOS. The growing fan-base combined with lack of any sort of ''real'' Star Trek until 1979 resulted in an ever more stringent clinging to the ''canon'' of the original series. The departure, either radical or not with this upcoming ''vision'' of Star Trek is necessary. Evolution is imperative if Star Trek is to remain relevant to both entertainment and intellectual debate.

It would seem it is on par with something like Pearl Harbor in scope and budget. I hope it has the patience and ''soul'' to tell a story worth telling to go with it. I expect it will.

Haha -- don't worry. I am probably the most frequently misunderstood forum poster in the Star Trek universe. I'm most satisfied when my posts are being edited without comment or I'm walking the thin line of being banned. My posts, however, should always be absorbed in the best positive spirit of everything Star Trek.

Hmmm. I like that rumor. It's making the wheels in my brain turn. Interesting.

I could see him in something background, not a major role.
