So Riker suppresses his emotions to the point that Troi cannot pick up on them?

I imagine they laid down some ground rules after they realised they could all cheat. Making sure Troi didn't probe, Geordi only picked up certain wavelengths, Data turned off his internal calculator etc... hence making it back on level pegging, apart from Worf of course, wonder if that's why he was so angry so often.

I wouldn't think that Troi could just turn off her ability though, it's an inate sense that she has. It's like one of us just turning off our hearing.

And we know Geordi looks at cards after the hand is over because he said so. Looking at someone's dead hands is against poker protocol.

Or perhaps they all used their special skills, be it great bluffing, empathy, "X-raying" the cards or counting them ... all but Worf who has not special skill.

"Its not wise to upset a Klingon."
"I see your point. I suggest a new strategy. Let the Klingon win."

I could see how for a guy like Riker, the challenge of controlling his emotions against Troi to beat her in Poker would be an entertaining challenge. But still, you think if he sees pocket Aces in his hands there wouldn't be some subtle emotional response that she would notice?

Worf probably plays too aggressively to be any good. There is no honor in folding

NFL Football is the game for Worf, he'd make a great linebacker. Goes more to his skill set than poker.
