The point of the Trailer or the Movie.
Human stories tend to do that. Often they're just tellings of events not a plot.

Human stories tend to have no real end..look at Forrest Gump for example.

Thats a good example, actually.
The previews for that were less erratic than this.
But if anything I think what I got of the trailer was that this movie was about some sort of psychosis.

Could be. Suffering from psychosis can make for good fictional drama.

Did you read the follow up book? The book was, yes more fun. But the film's seriousness denoted Gump's condition more to a mass audience.
