Default How many of you will read the book first?

The novelization always seems to hit the shelves before the movie hits theaters. But i have never been able to enjoy a film as well after reading the book first. I think i did it twice, long ago, and i realized that not knowing what was coming next made the cinema experience just that much better. So nowadays, i always watch the movie, and read the novelization afterwards. What about you guys?

As you say, I won't touch a novelization before the film. I want that first screening experience to be as new as possible.

Il buy the book but only AFTER ive watched the movie - novels usually give a better idea of a characters thoughts etc but cant recreate the experience.

It's hard because you want to know what happens. I think it did it for Star Wars, which I now regret because I agree that losing that suprise factor kind of sucks. I think with this new Trek movie I will wait for the movie because I want to be suprised. I also hope to avoid people that read the book and give away the endings without even asking anybody if they want to hear it or not.

I would rather have the Clif Notes of the book, so I can just know what to expect from the movie.

Good idea. Maybe just an overall summary from Wikipedia or something like that.

It depends on if the movie is based on a novel. Since this movie is not based on a novel, I will watch the movie first.

Obviously, I'll reread Prince Caspian before that movie comes out, and reread The Hobbit when that (supposedly) comes out.
