agreed, I was hoping to hear the 'space...' monologue at the end I was hoping Kirk would say it and even more so with 'five year mission' and 'man has gone before', I know, terribly sexist of me, but it would've been nice to hear.

Yeah, should have been Kirks line, but I don't think its at all sexist, just the PC brigade gone mad. Shatner playing anyone else in Star Trek would just be 'the elephant in the room' for a Star Trek movie. You would have to explain in some way why he isn't playing Kirk, and Mudd is just too ridiculous a character to put on the big screen.
Playing Kirks grandfather is an interesting idea, but it would be too contrived unless Kirks grandfather had a role integral to the movie.
Better just to leave this idea alone, theres already a Kirk there, Pine. Just my opinion.

Just my 2 cents.
Maybe. But often what looks great on paper at first isnt so good later when the story is developed more. The scene itself could be good but may not be the right tone for the rest of the movie.

Shatner had his time as Kirk, he allowed the charter to die in Genratioons.

It's Pine's trun, let him have his chance.

Oh, I am all about Pine and moving on. Please don't misunderstand. I just think that one play would have been cool.

It's over now, and cannot be replicated, it is what it is and Bill Shatner wasn't in it.

Denny Crane in the 24th Century.

He can play the lawyer Kirk had in Court Martial.

The actor is too old now to be belivable as a younger Kirk of any kind.
