I don't see that very many fans at all expect this film to "take them back to when they were 10", but I'm sure many would like the film to recapture the spirit of fun and adventure which drew them to TREK at first, whether that was in childhood or not.

Include familiar touchstones, yes. Time travel back to 1966, no.

You know at that's what I see now..It's not the same crew so we shouldn't obsess with how everything should look similar to the original....It really is a reenvisioning.

That's how I'll accept it from now on.

As long as it's not SO reinvisioned, as to loose the fan base.

I hope they go with a slightly scaled down version of the TOS tricorder.... something not quite so bulky.....

I think that SO reinvisioned is actually what he's going for. We may by looking at a Battlestar Galactica here.

If one want's to maintain the continuity and the main time frame is really supposed to be the time before Kirk took over command of the Enterprise, then all the "Trek tech" should look like something between "The Cage" and "Where No Man Has Gone Before." However, I'd rather everything look like the later stages of TOS.

How about a TOS-style shoulder-strap tricorder, but a slim handheld display for it? That'd be a good nod to both tradition and today's tech.

Of course, since they're already filming, we can assume prop designs have been locked down and nobody's gonna listen to us anyway

SOmething like the updated version for Trek 3? Those designs were a nice nod to the original without looking exactly like it.
