I don't think a work of the imagination qualifies as a "spoiler", unless you have a specific and concrete source to reference your information from.

Well, I'll give our new friend some credit: at least he/she erred on the side of safety when it comes to spoilers, which is rare for new members and often rare for their first post. Better safe than sorry when just starting out, and I salute you Omegaman. Welcome to the forum!

I think any opening involving Spock will be more elaborate than that, but it's a possibility as a concept.

Why not have a "fake out" begining with Pike and his crew, a chance to play with the title a bit. At the end have the familiar intro and title credits for an ending?

Great concept. I think that if it indeed will be a time travel plot then I see Leonard Nimoy's Spock starting the movie out. We will get to hear the original themesong up first but they could start the movie many different ways. I would also like to welcom omegaman.

If it helps, Young Jim is no longer a rumor, since the casting was already announced for it. Basically every character you mention is guaranteed to show up... as you say, now how do they fit together?

My early theory is: Kirk's family and Spock's family don't fit together at all -- these early life scenes will show (briefly) how and why Jim and Spock took the direction in their lives which lead them to serve together in Starfleet. The earliest they could have met was in the Academy, but that would even seem fleeting given the difference in their ages and experiences before and after graduation. Purely conjecture, though, based on a lack of info about a very secret film plot.

If there is one "hard canon" bit of history, it's that Spock served under Pike for two five-year missions before Kirk took command of the E. Perhaps that's the one certainty we can 'count on' in the new film... and as far as we know, that service record doesn't include Kirk at all unless they change Kirk's established record.
