As soon as we contacted them, I would ask the captain if he would help us come up with a solution to the impending volcanic disaster at Yellowstone. Perhaps with their advanced technology they could somehow calm the titanic underground volcanic forces that threaten to end life as we know it. If the predicted super-eruption actually occurred, it is doubtful the human race would survive.

Oh yeah...and it's also capable of advanced space propulsion!

Ok, Ok, Ok, I know. It was a only meant as a joke based on all the engine room talk. Please forgive...I really do love the engine room!

I think that, ultimately, the question becomes, why are they maintaining radio silence? And how long would the great powers of Earth allow it to remain quiet without attempting to do something about it?

For all we know, the Enterprise might be within some kind of temporal anomaly due to which it cannot communicate. ("Wink of an Eye" (TOS) and "Blink of an Eye" (VOY).)

The heck with all that - I'd be on the roof of my house with a sign saying "Scotty - Beam Me Up & Let's Get The Heck Outta Here!"

See, the fact that the Enterprise is maintaining radio silence is troubling. Perhaps the ship is only an illusion used by non-Federation forces.

I agree with the person who said that we'd probably send the Shuttle to inspect it fairly soon. But before that, we would have every available means to recon with it, including using any of our unmanned satellites that might have maneuverability (there could be some top-secret ones that are able to move from orbit to orbit).

The Hubble and other optical telescopes would be used to take telescopic photographs of it.

Earth's intelligence agencies might also attempt to probe it using radio telescopes and other nonoptical sensors.
