I'm amazed 'They should be able to make lots of changes if it helps the franchise' isn't getting more votes.

I don't think that making lots of changes would help the franchise.

I think they should be free to make whatever changes they want around the character, just as long as the characters are recognisable as the ones I know from the TOS, I'd take a mirror 'verse movie if I had to. I'm just ecstatic someone's doing something with it.

What were they thinking? I mean, I don't see no ID monster on Talos IV.

(Sheesh.)

"Influenced?" :

"The Cage" is largely lifted from "Forbidden Planet." I sure missed that damned Id monster, though Susan Oliver was a fine sub for Anne Francis.

Indeed "fine."

As a serious aside, I remember the Star Trek Maps (I have no idea where my copy is now) but they were wonderfully detailed.

And if I recall correctly, the C-57D was listed.

Edited to Add: It may have been in the Okuda's Star Trek Chronology ... anyone have their copy handy to check?

Small changes/errors are to be expected...I refer you to ST:II, Khan should not have remembered Chekov's face.

I don't think there's a lot of visual influence from "Forbidden Planet" into Trek (except maybe that big cannon...maybe). Content-wise, though, it's impossible to reasonably ignore the connection.
