I hadn't either. I was also thinking "leg pulling".

If someone is playing some kind of prank I hope they will have the decency to stop for the reasons I've outlined.

For any genuine young people who are on this forum, I would like to say keep yourself safe. Don't be too quick to trust people and share details of your personal life. Nobody can be sure of people's real identities based on posts or avatars.

In that case, Horatio, mine is 8675309. I had it shortened.

No need to apologize. I think the idea crossed people's minds, but you've cleared that up. It looks like you have taken some of our advice regarding your posts and applied them. Keep it up. Practice will make it easier. It is much easier for us to know what you are trying to communicate when you use punctuation and capital letters. Good job!

The whole proper diction, punctuation, spelling and verbage is lost on a younger generation who thinks "C U L8R" means "See you later."
This texting thing is going to destroy the English language as we know it.
E-mails are bad enough.

No disrespect was intended, SpoktheCool. Your spelling is good, I know people with severe dyslexia who can't spell anywhere near as well as you. By the way, use of I rather than i really does make your posts read way better

All we've been trying to do is make a safe place here for people to post. I hope the point about not being too trusting on internet forums made sense?

That is why every adult in a young person's life should not be accepting of this. I don't mind shorthand in texts but I don't see that as an excuse to say "things change, these kids are different". If adults demand more from young people then we will get more. I have a young niece that can text like there is no tomorrow, yet her spelling, grammer, and punctuation are great where it needs to be (schoolwork and such). I think that is due to my sister and I not making excuses for her. My sister has also instilled a love of reading in my niece, which is not very common these days.
