Thumbs up Star Trek Blu-ray to Incorporate New Tech

Paramount plans to make the Blu-ray edition of Star Trek one for the record books: It'll be the first commercially available DVD whose cover will incorporate "augmented reality" technology, according to a recent report.

Paramount may formally announce plans for release of the three-disc set tomorrow, the report claims.

And....those of us silly enough to have just bought a blu-ray player, not a gaming system are...what? Also...being an early adopter to the blu-ray technology, I see yet another firmware upgrade in my future....

I dont exactly get what this is supposed to be. I dont have a webcam on my PC anyways and my printer needs ink. Since it comes out in Nov I guess I foresee a bluray player for Christmas.

I don't entirely follow the technology they refer to. However, if the blu-ray is 3 discs does that mean the DVD special edition will also be 3 discs?

(looking forward to the 360 ship inspector though!)

It's neat, but not a huge selling point for me.

don't these people realize that some of us CAN NOT afford webcams?! especially when we don't even own the computer we are using?
If I ask Dad to get a webcam, the first thing he will say is "NO, I do not want any one to be able to see what the inside of this house looks like." His house his rules... so now I have to wait for the release, and still won't be able to use this nice feature...no gaming system, either.

Haven't you read Brave New World? "Ending is better than mending!"

Now I'm really psyched for the release!
