As long as it doesn't air on FOX...

Is this the rush to push SW back up, since trek grabbed alot of the attention? If so, this is gonna get VERY interesting..

no rushing involved. LFL has been planning this a long time. STAR WARS has never been "down" either.

The live action TV series has been in development since 2005, alongside the Clone Wars cartoon series.

Star Trek didn't enter development until 2006/2007 so there's no jumping on the bandwagon involved here.

30 years? I thought Luke was a teenager in episode IV. Either way, you are correct that there are years of stories to be told, but the unltimate outcome is already known. The rebels will not defeat the Emperor.

Oops, I'm thinking of the overall time between EP1 and IV. That pushes it to around 30.

In those 17 years though, the Senate still exists (it was referred to as finally dissolved only in Star Wars by Tarkin) so there's undoubtedly stories there of the increasing ambitions of Palpatine vs the crumbling democratic system of the Republic.

If it went in a political drama direction there may be avenues. Or, they could cut out the Empire and reference it only obliquely and focus on another type of storyline.
