Default Trekker VS. Trekkie

Which of us are Trekkers?
Which of us are Trekkies?
Point of clarification: They are not the same. A Trekker is someone who grew up and became a fan during the time the series originally aired.
A Trekkie is anyone who joined up after the series went into syndication.

I didn't know there were official designations for the two...but I'm glad I'm a Trekker, then!

I thought... trekkie = TOS and TNG, while trekker = DS9/VOY/ENT

No. In fact it was such a point of contention that many Trekkers were offended at being called Trekkies.

A trekker wonders what having sex in space would be like.

A trekkie wonders what having sex would be like.

Is that simple enough?!!

True enough In America, I guess, but in Australia all Trek fans are Trekkies uniformly, as all motor bike riders are Bikies (including the tough gangs) and all truck drivers are Truckies. A Trekker would sound a bit odd (and dare I say it? A bit pretentious) in an Australian context.

Bikies? You GOT to be kidding!? If you called a biker that in the U.S., he or she would probably knock you out! Bikie sounds more like someone that rides a pedal bike, like Lance Armstrong!

Pretentious or not, I am a Trekker!

I think "Trekker" came into existence in order to separate some fans from what many perceive as the overly zealous, or "nerdy", crowd of fans, such as those shown in the "Trekkies" films.

No. Trekker is the term for an original Star trek fan. It's what we called ourselves. Trekkie came about after the series died and went into syndication. A lot of media outlets used trekkie to describe fans and us Trekkers were mightily offended.
