If You Thought it was only Trekker purists that had a problem with Trek XI...
than you haven't read this,
http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/smg-...questions.html The one common denominator between these two films is Orci/Kurtzman. Do these guys not know how to write, or are they just bad at it? And how does this bad writing translate into huge box office numbers? Maybe it wasn't the writing that drew audiences, but the franchise and the respective visual effects of both films.

Well, anyone going to a Transformers movie looking for witty bon mots, let alone subtle plot twists, is gonna be disappointed. But I suppose Trek should be of a higher caliber...

Trek was better than either of the Transformers. It would be a lot harder to treat Transformers as seriously.

Oh man, when it comes to Transformers 2 is soooooooooooo couldn't care less about 'inconsistencies' in the storyline. Valid or not.
As for what drew people in - BIG ROBOTS!! Not the itty bitty storyline. When I go to see a Transformers film I just want lots of big explosions. My needs are no greater than that. I could probably come up with a couple of possible answers in my own head for some of the points raised - but I don't care about the 10 points enough to give it that kind of thought. Anyways, re Trek, well maybe it should be of a higher calibre (if you want to ignore parts of it's own past that made no sense and were glaring inconstistencies) but the past has shown it has it's own issues in that department.

Talk to Joe Eszterhaus. He's been writing crap movies for decades, and people still pay him millions to do it.
Hacks are like cockroaches. Step on one, three more take it's place. Unfortunately, it's been a truisim since the beginning of the movie business: If a film is a success, then no one mentions who wrote it. (It's all the producer and director's genius) but if a film flops, then everyone is reminding us that it was the writers fault.
