Default Star Trek Online (STO)

I was REALLY looking forward to this title hitting the streets.

Basically an MMO in the Star Trek franchise.

However, with the first design studio losing the franchise rights for the game and the fact it's been now picked up by the people that developed City of Heroes, I'm not sure how long it will be before we see it for sale in the shops.

I'd hazard a guess and say between 3 and 5 years from now.

Anyone else heard anything about the game itself?

So NCSoft has the rights to the game now?

Don't think so.

It's gone to a company that developed City of Heroes, called Cryptic Studios.

I thought CoH was ok as a game, it was very repetative in the long haul though and the graphics were cartoony as well.

A shame that a big hitting franchise name like Star Trek, cannot find a big hitting development company.

The writer's strike has totally messed things up with Star Trek Online...their website is no longer active...and i think production has stopped....

Oh, it hasn't got a lick to do with the Writers' strike.

Perpetual Entertainment laid off all the developers last month (January) and the license for the game had been tranferred to some other Bay Area development company.

As far as production, IF it ever happens, it won't be for a long while. This could be "Secret of Vulcan Fury, Part Deux."

Yeah, it's a shame that Perpetual got dropped. It really seemed like they were putting some really good work into the game. Lots of neat concept shots and I believe I once saw an in-game test screenshot. Probably scrapped entirely now...

BTW, a little news has come out about the game recently: http://trekmovie.com/2008/03/08/star...ing-soonagain/

I wasn't a big fan of the direction the game was taking, so I'm glad its got another chance with a fresh start, and the change on the official website with the "Coming Soon" thing may be a small ray of hope. We may yet see a decent ST MMO in our lifetimes.

Wouldn't mind it if done right, I'm just not sure how well it'll translate to an online game.
