I thought the 'Iowa' concept looked a bit 60's, personally. I prefer the Kelvin.

The only real difference is a red stripe.

It's also brighter, whiter, and less 'platey', with the deflector looking like it's been nicked off Sputnik.

Edit: Yeah, I Googled Sputnik and it doesn't have a dish, so sue me!

Actually, looking at these makes me happier with what we got.

I agree, the Kelvin is an amazing looking ship, I wish the big E had more in common with it.

The USS Iowa is frakking AWESOME! Why couldn't the Kelvin have looked like that? For that matter, why couldn't the Abramsprise have looked like that!

Not lovin' that bridge any more than I do the iBridge in the movie. But the engineering pics look better than what we got.

Absolutely love the bike! Pure awesome!

Does that happen often?

I also like the engineering concepts, mainly because there's a guy in the doorway, and when it goes to red alert, he goes into disco dance mode.
As always its a matter of taste. To me the movie Kelvin came out better. I do like the engineering section concepts but its pretty narrow. It does remind of the long warp whattheyarecalleds but more industrial... which was the whole point. Yes there is piping and ductwork in those images also.

But that area could be added as another part of engineering. It will take time to come out but the Bud plant could have been a nod to the reality of finding ways to save money for more important things. Hollywood SOP. Go for the industrial look but without having to build a major customized set. Another thing came to mind, IIRC by design JJ tried to get away from virtual sets as much as possible. But now everyone sees that the need for significant and complicated computer generated engineering sections is probably a must. I suspect we will and the money will be available for it.

Speaking of red stripe...does the new "E" have its traditional red emblem along the outside length of engineeringing section? I did not see it in these renditions and was not sure about the movie. I would actually like to see that on the new "E".

Just a personal preference. :-)
