As much as I like William Shatner, I am not sure exactly how he would be in the next movie. As fun as he is on screen, it would require digging into previous canon from other movies to try to make a justification to see an 'aged Prime universe Kirk'. That would take a lot of effort, which can be done, but you will lose alot of the expanded audience appeal this movie had.
It also sends the message that these new actors can't carry on the legacy without direct support from the original crew. As a hand-off, the technique works, and this story works, but it is a one shot deal. Repeating this may not work. Now, if you take the flashback or 'vision' route, you could justify bringing in William Shatner and even others... If 'Pine'-Kirk were to encounter some artifact that lets him communicate with a future version of himself, or simply see the future, that could possibly work. If we assume that events changed, we can still see William Shatner is some sort of 'vision' as Kirk, still alive in the future as a result of altered events.- Now that I think about it, I think it would be interesting since we have seen the future trying to time-travel backwards to alter history, what if the premise is to preview the future in order to alter it in the present. -Think Back to the Future part II. That would make for a continued story arc. The third movie could continue to follow the alteration of events theme leading to a restoration of events... Who knows. I look forward to it either way. ![]() Last edited by Airborne Stormtrooper : 06-23-2009 at 07:59 AM. |

Nobody from the future should be in the sequal. There should be no timetraveling aspects at all from here on out. PrimeSpock is already there, so he can be in it. But other than him, focus on the new crew.

Shatner would not add much to the movie, in my opinion.
Using the storyline, they worked both Spocks in perfectly. We do not need two Kirks. |

NO MORE TIME TRAVEL. It's a starship not a TARDIS!!
Shatner should not reprise his role as Kirk. That's over and done with. He could do a supporting role like Cyrano Jones, or maybe even Harry Mudd, but the idea of Shat/Kirk revisiting the past is just stupid.

Only because Shat/Kirk is dead. I'm sure he regrets agreeing to a death scene.

Besides, he's just not Kirk anymore.

Would Shatner add much? We have a new captain now
