Default create your own TREK series

suppose you were offered a chance to develop a STAR TREK TV series by Paramount.

what kind of characters would you use?
what actors would you like?
would it be starship based?
what kind of starship?
when would it take place?
etc, etc.

there are some restrictions - the suits want it kept in the JJ timeline (or before the split), but it must not "interfere" with the new movies AND the characters must be ALL NEW - no TNG, DS9, VOY or ENT (unless it is a truely awesome idea)
  • I would make the characters truely international and cast accordingly.
  • I would centre the show on 3 or 4 main characters, but have a larger recurring guest cast.
  • I have a liking for the Starfleet cotumes of the TWOK to TUC era and JJ should that going retro with TREK tech can blow the mind
  • if it was the TWOK to TUC era I go for a Constitution class ship
  • or maybe set it 50 or 60 years after TNG
  • I liked the character of Johann in Hellboy II so I was thing that the chief engineer or science officer could be an alien made of gas who needs a special suit to function outside of his natural environment (has this been done in one of the books already?? is that why it's in my head??)

what would do if given the chance?

I'd never do a TV series about another Trek crew unless it branches off from an Enterprise series. I especially wouldn't be caught doing a fan made series.

I agree. I think they cancelled ENTERPRISE just when it was getting good. According to the Star Trek chronology, if ENTERPRISE went on to a fifth season it would have lead to the events leading up to the Earth/Romulan war, out of which comes the formation of the Federation. That could have been an entire series in itself, i certainly am curious about Archer and his crew's role in the war and how this war causes planets and star systems to form alliances that lead to the formation of the United Federation of Planets.

I do this all the time with fan fiction. Putting different combination of people and aliens together on a ship or station is the most fun part.

I couldn't have it in the JJ timeline though...that's pushing it

You can still do that but on a different ship. But cut off the show at 5 years not 7. No 5 year mission but 5 years about the before-during-after Romulan war. You can have Ent cameos if they actually help a story along. If everything is well done it doesnt matter what the ship name is. No it cant all be about the war, but it can be the glue. One problem is that alot of space battles can get expensive.
