Default How many live on DS9?

I am not sure of this, on Captive Pursuit, Miles O'Brien told Tosk that there were 300 people on DS9, and another place later in the series, someone said there were more than 1200 people on DS9? Anyone have any iron clad answers?

Hi there

I can't find anything concrete myself but I'm sure I've read somewhere that at least 5000 people live on the station - or that it has the capacity to house that many at least.

I think I need to do some research on that.

I think it depends on how many ships are docked/visiting and varies on the time of year.

Yep, the population of DS9 varied depending on who came and went on the station, but there only 300 people who permanantly lived there. The station could hold up to 7,000 persons, if necessary though...

I'd reckon it would fluctuate a lot. The core numbers would mostly be the main crew who worked there day to day, shop owners etc and then the rest would be the visitors.

An often complaint by some fans is that Sisko should have been a captain (if not a one-pip admiral) when he first took command of DS9. But since the station only had a permanant population of 300, it's not surprising that it only rated a commander's billet at the time, IMO...

I never realised that was an issue at the time.

If one takes a Dabo girl in one's bed, there might be room for more.
