How about everyone converging on the theaters this weekend and giving Star Trek a hero's send-off?
Obviously not all the new fans peruse this forum so the word needs to get out. Somebody familiar with flash-mobbing and Twitter needs to take this to the next level. To be sure, movies aren't cheap in this protracted economic down-turn, but ''good'' movies are hard to come by these days, so part of the goal behind this is to send a clear message to Hollywood to start producing quality movies worth the price of a ticket and the overpriced concessions. Saturday matinee? I know where I am the first couple shows of the day are priced at $7. Wouldn't it be great to look back on the summer of 2009 and say in the words of Kirk-Prime, ''it was fun.'' Who's game? |

Well, having talked to a theater manager in Princeton, NJ today, it will be there this weekend, but only just this last Saturday they were still not sure. Obviously hanging on at 5th place kept it around. I wouldn't count on another but...
Now, if this ''little idea'' to flash mob the theaters works--it might add yet another week--but for sure no matter what it'll be pushed out for the Independence Day movies upcoming. |

It's a ''two-fer.'' Think of it as opening weekend and closing weekend all wrapped in one. A ''friendly crowd'' will make for a heck of a time I think.

Sounds like a good idea; I think I'll give it a shot.

Star Trek just pulled in $734k for Tuesday. Why on earth would Paramount want to let this movie leave the theater when it's still clinging onto 7th place and will likely pull another $6-8 million through the combined week and weekend take? There are still several movies that have a week or more time in the theater longer than Trek, and they're not pulling the numbers of Trek. It's funny to see Trek pulling in more than both Terminator and A&D. It's doing more daily than A&D and Wolverine combined.
I can't wait until it comes out on DVD, but to pull it now when it's still pulling in good money seems a little dumb to me. I still think it has at least $250m domestic in it if they leave the movie out for a couple more weeks. |

ST is still on the schedule at my local theater through next Thursday, even after the release of Transformers.
