Preconceptions are normal. Trek is a special case because of many fans insistence on canon. They go in knowing full well that canon is out the window. So enjoyment of the movie aside they watch it knowing that their insistence will not be fulfilled. No that doesnt mean that someone who doesnt like the movie must fall under this category. But for Trek the percentage of people who do fall under it are much higher than average. Actually, off hand I dont think the last couple of big prequels hardly had that issue at all.

a couple of the "big prequels" recently had the advantage of not really being "prequels" or "reboots".
1. batman begins. all of the batman movies since batman (1989) retold the origin story. except for batman and robin. 2. casino royale. prior to casino royale/quantum of solace none of the 007 movies were connected by much. from russia with love is a sequel to dr. no. only because blofeld mentions dr. no in frwl. a few of the post on her majesty's secret service movies reference bond having been married at sometime in the past. star trek does not have the advantage of being disjointed individual movies like the bond films do. one seemingly strange thing about star trek 2009 is that no one seems to have a problem with the re-casting. with bond and batman it is the re-casting that people seem to object to.
