I suppose one could argue a dream is, in a sense, an alternate reality, but what would reality mean in this case? At any rate, last night i had a dream i was in an alternate reality, and the funny thing about it was that i was aware of it. That is, i hypothesized, i was in an alternate reality because i noticed things were different. I couldn't find my car, then began to wonder if i had a car in this alternate reality, and if i did, if it was different from the make and model of my car in my 'real' reality. It was thematically one of those lost dreams, where i was looking for my things, trying to find my relatives, and trying to get to work-without knowing where i worked, or if i was employed.

Dreams are either surrealistic mixtures of experiences and thoughts or alternate realties, "what ifs". I'd like to give an example, but this is an all-age forum.

Boy, did I ever! I dreamed that we were all hit by a "stupid beam" and elected a TX cheerleader to the White House... then he ignored a warning about an impending attack, and after that happened, we went off to war with the wrong country entirely! Is that crazy, or what? Then the dream turned really dark, with me imagining that the US had become some sort of weird torture state, where everyone's phone was tapped, and people who tried to speak out about it were rounded up and kept in cages called "free speech zones..."
Yeah, that was a crazy dream! I have to stop eating "Freedom Fries" before going to bed.... (ring, ring) Hello? What? That was the last eight years? Really? Uh.. okay... thanks! (Twilight Zone theme in and under...)

If we accept the philosophy of reality only existing in the perception of the human mind, then what is to distinguish your "alternate reality" from the universally accepted "general reality"? A table, for instance, is said to "exist" because (and only because) it is perceived through our senses by our mind, for we can in no other way prove its existence objectively. These "alternate realities" of yours exist only in your mind - however, that kind of existence still does not differ from our general guidelines of explaining our world, with the key exception that the generally accepted "reality" is perceptively experienced by the majority.
Philosophically, however, you could argue for the acceptance of any reality 'perceived' by the brain, for ALL reality 'exists' as a result.
