He was also another poor attempt at TNG comedy, just like 75% of Insurrection.

Ok, I understand Data's sacrifice. But using B-4 as a cop out really cheapend the charater and the franchise.

I don't think B4 was supposed to be any kind of comic relief. If anything, he was written to be pitied because he was so less advanced than Data was.

But in regards to Lore, I think we were just supposed to forget that he existed since that bit of continuity would have complicated the story they wanted to tell.

That being said...
From this day forward, the android known as "Lore"--and any episodes that featured him--is forever stricken from canon. B4 was Data's only prototype

B4 was definitely played for comic relief in certain scenes.

Nothing in NEM indicated that B-4 was Data's only brother. Let's also not forget that Lore was quasi-killed or dismantled (don't remember precisely) at the end of "Descent".

He would have been better than B-4 but we all know how the continuity crops would have reacted to a resurrection of a dead character in these times ...

I really don't think so. B4 was in the few lighthearted moments in the movie, but I wouldn't call him comic relief at all.

Lore wasn't bad until Desent 1 and 2...those episodes just sucked.

Brothers, was a good use of Lore.

If only they had kept the lighthearted moments to just a few in the previous movie...

To play devil's advocate, nothin' in Nemesis indicated he wasn't Data's only brother either. As far as casual or first-time audiences are concerned, Lore certainly doesn't exist. Hell, they could have just said B4 was "another prototype," and yet they opted not to do even that.

Face it, Lore was an unnecessary complication to the story and it was decided not to even deal with that bit of continuity.

Exactly my point. It was better just to forget him than to try explain all that. Besides, if they had found Lore on that planet, they certainly wouldn't have reassembled him.
