Star Trek opened with the Hollywood touch, plus local flair, in Mexico City.
Some highlights: - JJ Abrams said that work was beginning on the next Star Trek movie, which will not carry a number, but instead will be subtitled. - Writer Roberto Orci addressed the assembled media in Spanish. Orci was born in Mexico City. - Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana delighted the crowd as an impromptu singalong broke out in honor of the former's birthday. Good to see that Zach has shaved the ridiculous pencil-moustache he wore at the airport the day before! I guess it that (together with the hat) was an attempt at camouflage.

That pic of Saldana hitting swinging at a busted pinata was funny. I think its interesting that J.J. doesn't want the sequel titled Star Trek XII, i think it indicates that he doesn't see this film as in line of succession with the other films, as indeed, the whole alternate universe explanation was contrived to indicate. He's restarting Trek on a whole new footing, no ties to the past, and he wants the title of his Trek films to reflect that.

I think that was pretty implied with this one being simply - Star Trek. I would have seen no reason to go back to having a number in the title.
In the same way the TNG films were set apart and the numbering was dropped from the title, so it will be here.
