They made a big point of us (the audience) seeing the great beauty shot of Enterprise. I absolutely LOVED that scene...very emotional and great music. But it was just floating there in space. Why did they act like they had to go thru the details of casting off mooring lines and impulse power, etc? It wasn't connected to the big space station like we saw some of the other ships.

As far as I can tell, it was coupled to the space station.

We see it undock - when the ship reverses and the sauceer tilts as part of the reversing manouvre.

Yes, we saw it all. It was free floating in space, attached to nothing.

Horatio, why are you giving me a hard time? I LOVED the movie and every aspect of it. I just like to discuss it now that I have seen it 7 times. There are A LOT worse "nitpickers" here than I. I'm telling you, the Enterprise was attached to nothing. I really don't care, since that is my fav scene in the whole movie, I just wanted feedback. Sorry you think I'm, a "nitpicker".

You might be right Kevin. I didn't notice that though. Seems like the ship was totally in space on it's own.

Maybe at the point in time the shuttles go up, it is unmoored for a process reason we can't possible know because we're not star base or star ship engineers? Works for me.

I;m really not here to bash the scene. It was my favorite. Bones: "Jim, you gotta look at this!"
Kirk: "Wow!"
Then the great music starts up and we see that beautiful ship. I literally had tears in my eyes. I just didn't see that it was attached to the space dock is all and wanted some opinions.
