What if the Enterprise is hit directly on dorsal shields/hull(pushing it 'downward') exactly at the point when it fires a torpedo?

In the split second after firing the torpedo, the hull moves downward just enough for the torpedo to clip or run right into a part of the saucer.

I'm obsessive compulsive, so I'm always imagining the worst case scenarios, even if the likelyhood of them happening is 0.01%.

The torpedo firing range being so close to the saucer just really bugs me.

And the Enterprise D's forward topedo launcher range has a safe disatance between it and the saucer.

It's not like the original or the refit where the underside of the saucer pretty much dangles in front of the torpedo launchers.

Here's an illustration of what I mean:

Alright, here is my version, done with a pencil and eraser.

Yes genuine criticism... but with a friendly jab to it.

Anyways if targeting is a potential problem just put the torpedo launchers inside the most forward part of the saucer. Full field of view that way.

That's a really cool mix of your Enterprise and my Enterprise.

Hopefully this thread will spawn many more iterations and endless variety.

We could create our very own interpretation of Starfleet in a very short time if we all work together.

If you want to know what he means about the mix between his and mine, here is a comparison:

I beat you to the comparison pics, Farshot.

But your comparison looks way better than mine, so good work all the same.

I think we should continue with the pencil, paper, eraser and possibly a ruler for now.

It's quicker to create drawings that way and more ideas will come of it sooner rather than later.

If we're happy with one particular design out of all the others, then I think we can take it to the next step and design it in a computer program, to scale.

Also, this is cool enough already just between me and FarShot, but I'd really like it if more people would come on board and contributed their designs as well and take our designs into consideration when making theirs and vice versa.

Don't be shy.

I'll try to post some images myself, but no promises. I'll have to see how they turn out. Do you mind if my design is a future Enterprise? I have several ideas for a possible USS Enterprise NCC-1701-G in the 25th century. And of course, if it has to be a redesign of the TOS ship, I'm more than willing to accommodate.

It's like the name of the thread says, Jonathan.

"Let's all design the Enterprise together".

I don't mind at all. You can draw any Enterprise from any century from any universe that you want.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to post another new one I did a few hours ago.

On this one(the one at the bottom of the post) I made another nacelle concept, and I RedShirtRus-ified the StarShot-ification.(I think we better come up with an easier way to keep track of the concept names).

Saucer looks to small for such a long neck. Saucer size needs to be increased, especially at the back.
