I think that's a good point though...Spock sees and recognizes Kirk. He assumes Kirk is in command as he was in Spock Prime's reality...

Kirk didn't make captain until 30 in the main timeline.

There are bigger boners in this movie than Spock thinking 25 year old Kirk should be captain already, like why he's hanging out in an ice cave when there's a Federation outpost nearby that he clearly hasn't bothered to go to yet (or he'd already know that Scotty was there with his little Ewok friend). Or how the entire plot is like something that'd be rejected by any self-respecting fanzine.

Did I mention that I wasn't impressed?
