I'm not sure about this myself. I would think that Nero didn't really tell Spock anything when they captured him.

Spock knows that the supernova's gonna happen in "129 years", so we can safely assume he knows roughly when he's arrived.

The more you think things through with this movie the more things fall apart. The entire movie is full of crazy coincidences and holes in the plot. I usually look past these sorts of things in most movies, but this one was SOOOO in your face it is hard to NOT see! My God, I can only suspend so much disbelief before I say "WTF!?"

Isn't there a time cut just before the mind-meld where Spock could have been told what year etc it was?

There are two substantial coincidences to speak of - Sulu's mishap, and Kirk inadvertently running into the older Spock. Both are subject to some pretty obvious lampshade hanging, though, which shows that the writers were fully aware of what they were creating. As for 'plot holes'... lots of examples come up, but they largely fall apart when met with a direct quote from the dialogue, or some very straightforward conjecture.

Indeed there is - a lot of 'inconsistencies' in this film are adequately accounted for by the cinematic miracle of time-cuts

Well, then it's simply a case of not overthinking the movie. Which is what one should do with pretty much all of Star Trek.

I love time cuts - it saves boring exposition that can be filled by the viewer.
