Default As a trekkie are you accepted?

So I'm a very new trekkie. I love the new movie and TOS very much. I'm in love with Spock now. All I want to do is talk to people about Star Trek, but I can't really find any, except for my dad. Sometimes i think its bad that I'm a trekkie and that I'm sending a bad signal out to people. I wish I did not feel this way. I when trekkies get a bad reputation because they would be protrayed in the media as nerds. I don't think thats right. I was wondering how being a trekkie has affected you. Was it hard to find people to relate to with on ST? Did you have a hard time finding a girlfriend or boyfriend? Other thoughts?

hmm... I understand what you're going through... although I've been a Trekkie all my life (blame my brother and my dad. lol.) I thought I was gonna have a hard time making friends, but it was somewhat easy for me. I told my friends that I'm a Trekkie, but they don't care 'cause they don't believe in stereotypes. I found some friends who likes Star Trek... and I've had a boyfriend who is a Star Wars fan and a Trekkie. And yeah, I have or had friends who have never seen Star Trek at all. I took 2 of my friends who haven't seen Star Trek shows or movies at all to see the new Star Trek movie, and they loved it! They understand I love Star Trek so much, and now my friends wants to see all the Star Trek movies and TV shows I have on DVD.

Sorry, didn't mean to ramble on, but I'm sure you know what I meant. Anyway, you shouldn't feel bad about who you are. Don't listen what people tell you, don't let other people bring you down because you're different from them. Just be who you are. Never feel ashamed about anything.

i do believe that we are free to like what we like, but do you think that there comes a price for liking certain things?

Ironically, I've yet to have any problems with anyone regarding my interest in Trek.
I was lucky in that my gf was raised on TNG, and then I introduced her to more of TOS.
Out of all the films, STII, III, VI, and First Contact were her favourites before the current incarnation, which we both simply call "Star Trek'....no bloody numbers or whatnot attatched.
Same goes for my friends as well.

If people judge you for something as silly as what movies/tv shows you enjoy, they aren't worth being friends with anyhow. Always be true to yourself!
