Look at them, they are layered, and full cut to help hide middle age gut. Take a look at TWOK and 5 and 6 to see what I'm saying. The black pants help in the illusion of them being smaller.

It's true...as a woman of "size" I can tell you that the concept of "all black is slimming" is a lie (ask Kirstie Alley if you don't believe me!)..what really works visually is to have color close to the face, a uniform line and color down past the waist and then black below. That's exactly what TWOK uniforms gave our aging crew.

That was why they went with that style of uniform, the lines and color on the top combines with the black pant with the stripe. Look at pics of them out of costume around that time, you'll see they look "smaller" in costume.

They didn't have a year for Shatner and Doohan to go on "starvation diets" like they did for TMP.

As a man who has allways loved women of size, and married the hottest one out there, slimming is not allways the best look.

If JJ is a true trek fan as people say he is, then I think about 2, much more then that and it just gets a little rediculous...

If a 44 minute episode can have 1 then a 2hour movie should have around 2

That was my initial guess too. I think J.J. Abrams will tease us by MAKING us think a redshirt is about to die only to not. We'll see though!
