What was Nero doing. Does Countdown or the movie answer this? Was Nero just hanging out near the singularity being bitter? Why didn't he and his crew age, or get over their gripe? Did it take that long for Spock to come threw or what?

I believe there was an entire subplot about Nero being on a Klingon prison planet & then escaping, which was cut from the theatrical release of the film. I have seen some production stills of Nero fighting Klingon guards. This would better explain his whereabouts for 25 years.

Perhaps that is also addressed in the cut scenes. I don't think we'll know for sure until the footage is released on the Director's Cut DVD/Blu-Ray.

I thought it was mentioned somewhere that he just sat there, waiting for old Spock to come through the black hole.
Old Spock himself said to Kirk that from his point of view he went through the black hole only a few seconds before Nero, but that for Nero it was over 25 years.

Otherwise it's like predicting a future lightning strike based on one previous single strike. Nero: Where is Spock? Ayel: Beats me Captain! Nero: But we went first! Ayel: So umm why would he be ahead of us? Nero: Well we should be able to predict when he arrives. Ayel: Captain, as you said, we went first. Do you have knowledge we don't?

According to Ayel, Nero was able to calculate where and when Spock would appear. Chalk it up to 24th century science and computers, I suppose.

Movie dialogue: Spock (to Kirk via mind-meld): Nero went through first. He was the first to arrive.
