There were four of them. We know that Cupcake at least is most likely under his command.

I'd be quietly gloating every time I walked past them in the corridor with my Captain's stripes. All like

Plus fighting is not 3+ year old behavior. Would you classify boxing players and wrestlers as 3 year olds? Or as 5 year olds?

If Kirk wants to be viewed as a MAN, he needs to show those bullies who's boss. Thats how people here in the south do it, specifically in Alabama.
I wasn't saying fighting was for 3 year olds. Dude, I'm saying Kirk would have handled it before 3 or more years passed. He'd have taken each of the out in turn. It'd be kinda cool to see this as an episode idea with Kirk discussing how he was a real hot-head but that he's learned a lot.

Ok, in this film Kirk only assumed command because no one of more qualifactions came forward. Calling him "Capatin" was a mark of resepct on the part of the crew, and to help maintain the chain of command. He was never offically given rank by Starfleet in the film.

You are right! I had forgotten!

"Battlefeild promotions"(I use the term loosely) are not unheard of, but extremely rare. It probably was the mark of a job well done by Starfleet, and by the lobbying of Pike.
