Nice.

Orrrrrr..... you could simply take a highly-respected Trek veteran at her word.
You could have simply taken a highly-respected bank employee at his or her word, bought those Lehman Brothers bonds and lost your money.

Not taking other people's self interest into account is naive.

Depends on who solicited the interview.

Quetsion: If she'd said it was terrible, would your reaction have been "Oh my GOD, she speaks truth!!"

Interesting - given her knowledge of Star Trek then she does have a certain cache, having had to get inside the characters for her novels. Something she obviously managed to do quite well.

But if she had said she didn't like it then (as with anyone who doesn't like it) then it would have been her business. It wouldn't change my own personal opinion of the film or of her.

But what is interesting is that several TOS alumni (Nimoy, Bob Justman and Carey) have expressed their support for the new film and the work done on the characters. When none of them are beholden to anyone to praise it for any reason other than they feel that way - well, maybe Carey has a book idea, who knows!

So, Question: if people closely involved with TOS approve of the new film (and other's don't) does that make them wrong?

Only if they disagree with you, of course.

How would we even go about proving someone liked it or not, really? What would be satisfactory? A testimonial signed in blood?
Or should we just break into Diane Carey's DVD collection sometime next year and see if she actually bought the movie?

Liking the film is an individual choice. Someone endorsing it or not is not goign to sway me.

See how simple it is?

I guess we could always go down the old-fashioned route and accept that for the most part if someone says they like it, they mean it.

And if someone says they don't, they don't.

And in the end no-one really loses sleep over who does and doesn't and the world still turns. Your question was as pointless as mine and we each still think the same as we did before.

Exactly.

But people do tend to congregate according to which choice they pick. So naturally if someone says they like the film and someone else doesn't - they'll try to pick holes in it, because they don't like someone liking it.

And vice-versa of course.
